Are Metal Buildings Cheaper?

Wood buildings can be
exceptionally well made and low-maintenance for some time. Wood buildings
typically have a wooden interior structure as well as wooden skids and joist
for floor support. Usually, you will see wood sheds or buildings with an
asphalt shingled roof or even a metal roof. People used to called these “tin
roof” but a metal roof on a building can be cost-effective.
Wood buildings definitely
absorb heat. Even if you have a window, vents, etc., the building will still
get extremely hot inside, especially if it has a shingled roof. Wood buildings
can be portable or built-on-site to stay put. Wood buildings weigh more than
aluminum buildings do. Portable buildings made out of wood can also be built to
withstand severe weather but over time, wood buildings do require, at the very
least, semi-regular maintenance.
Metal buildings, or
aluminum portable buildings have their pros or good points. This type of
building is less expensive for the customer and also requires next to no
maintenance whatsoever. The interior can be metal or aluminum, as well as the
roof made of aluminum. This way, aluminum buildings repel the sun’s hot rays
and make the building cooler inside overall than a wood building. Aluminum
storage buildings also do not attract pests like squirrels, rats, snakes and
bugs.
Aluminum portable buildings
with aluminum roofs do not require paint or roof maintenance, as opposed to a
wood building with shingles. A building built with a metal roof will require
some maintenance but not as much, again, as a shingled roof.
If you purchase a building from
Georgia Portable Buildings, Inc., you will have a very sturdy floor in your
shed. 2”x6” pressure-treated skids and 2”x4” pressure-treated floor joists make
for a very sturdy building that doesn’t allow for rotting or pests. This floor
system still allows the shed to be portable at any time. Another thing you
receive with one of our portable buildings is a warranty on the floor
and the exterior.
Another common feature of both
wood and metal buildings from our company is that you can have them pre-fab or
modular built; in other words, the buildings are completely portable. The
structure in itself is sound and can be moved if you decide to move or if you
want the building in a different location. However, if you would prefer to have
a building built on site, say your property doesn’t allow access to get a
building delivered, you can choose the wood building option.
A note on portability…Many
manufacturers do not sell a truly portable storage building because
freestanding buildings cost the manufacturer less to build. With cheaper wood
buildings, the materials used to make the floor skids and joists is not
pressure-treated, can sometimes be very thin and prone to rotting. A downside
to a stand-alone building instead of a portable is that they cannot be moved in
the future (without great difficulty).
When you find the building you
are looking for with Georgia Portable, you can have it built custom to your
needs and still be 100 percent portable, with warranty and bug-proof. Whether
you choose a metal aluminum building or a wood building is up to you but now
you are more aware of the pros and cons of each type. What about prefab metal buildings?
In summary, an aluminum (or some
people call metal) building is cooler in the hot summer months due to the
reflective roof. You have an excellent floor, hardly any maintenance and
complete portability and the building weighs less than a wood structure. A wood
building is very attractive, can have a shingled or metal roof, and can be
built on site. Overall, aluminum (or metal) buildings are cheaper for you as
the customer. Check out our selection and get a price today!
